Sustainable extraction of hazardous metals from crystal glass waste using biodegradable chelating agents

چکیده
Abstract Extraction of hazardous metals from dumped crystal glass waste was investigated for site decontamination and resource recovery. Mechanically activated leached with biodegradable chelating agents ethylenediamine- N , N′ -disuccinic acid (EDDS) nitrilotriacetic (NTA), where the concentration reaction time were determined by using Box–Wilson experimental design. Hazardous lead (Pb), arsenic (As), antimony (Sb) cadmium (Cd) concentrations higher than regulatory limits extracted wherein extraction yield found to vary Pb > Sb As Cd. influenced more type chelator rather time. A maximum 64% could be EDDS while 42% NTA. It is that increase 0.05 M 1 did not show improved metal until 13 h. This study provides sustainable alternative treating mechanical activation followed chelator, instead leaching. Graphical abstract

Extraction Heavy Metals from Contaminated Water Using Chelating Agents
Water pollution caused by toxic elements is one of the most important environmental problems in the world. Heavy metals are toxic to human and dangerous for the environment. The objectives of this study were: the effects of chelating agents on heavy metals extraction from polluted water were carried out to examine. In different concentrations : 0.01, 0.05, 0.1 mg/l of Chelating agents: Ethylene...
متن کاملMobilization of heavy metals by newer, therapeutically useful chelating agents.
Four chelating agents that have been used most commonly for the treatment of humans intoxicated with lead, mercury, arsenic or other heavy metals and metalloids are reviewed as to their advantages, disadvantages, metabolism and specificity. Of these, CaNa2EDTA and dimercaprol (British anti-lewisite, BAL) are becoming outmoded and can be expected to be replaced by meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic aci...
متن کاملHazardous solid waste from agriculture.
Large quantities of food processing, crop, forestry, and animal solid wastes are generated in the United States each year. The major components of these wastes are biodegradable. However, they also contain components such as nitrogen, human and animal pathogens, medicinals, feed additives, salts, and certain metals, that under uncontrolled conditions can be detrimental to aquatic, plant, animal...
متن کاملThe Interaction between Metals and Chelating Agents in Mammalian Spermatozoa
Several studies have been made on the bacteriostatic and fungicidal properties of oxine (8-hydroxyquinoline) and other chelating agents, and it has been suggested that they might act, in part at least, by depriving cells of essential trace metals (Albert, 1951; Martell & Calvin, 1952). In an attempt to determine the trace element requirements of mammalian spermatozoa, White (1955) investigated ...
متن کاملMinding metals: tailoring multifunctional chelating agents for neurodegenerative disease.
Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease are associated with elevated levels of iron, copper, and zinc and consequentially high levels of oxidative stress. Given the multifactorial nature of these diseases, it is becoming evident that the next generation of therapies must have multiple functions to combat multiple mechanisms of disease progression. Metal-chelating age...
